OUR HISTORY

Our journey began with the remarkable and inspiring story of Mr. Tumwesigye Ronald, a man who rose from the depths of despair to become the driving force behind this noble organization. Ronald’s early life was marred by hardship and adversity. As a young boy growing up in Kiboga, he faced domestic violence and abuse at the hands of his father. Unable to bear the pain any longer, at the tender age of 16, he made the difficult decision to leave his home and seek a new life in Kampala.

However, life on the streets of the city proved to be a harsh reality. Struggling to survive, Ronald found himself caught in a cycle of drugs and crime, leading to multiple arrests and several stints in prison. It was during one of these trying times that fate intervened, and Ronald’s life took an unexpected turn. In the year 2002, while serving time in prison, Ronald found solace and redemption in a newfound faith. He encountered the teachings of Christ, and this encounter became a turning point in his life. Determined to change the trajectory of his existence, Ronald emerged from prison in 2005 with a renewed sense of purpose.
Providentially, he was taken in by a compassionate pastor who offered him employment as a cook and warden at the pastor’s school. This opportunity provided Ronald with stability and a chance to rebuild his life. However, he didn’t stop there. Despite the challenges he faced, Ronald’s hunger for knowledge and justice never wavered. At the age of 30, he made the courageous decision to return to school. He pursued and completed his ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels, and his thirst for education led him to Uganda Christian University, where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Law. His journey culminated with the successful completion of the Bar Course at Law Development Centre, Kampala, and his enrollment as an Advocate of the High Court.

Having triumphed over his own adversities, Ronald’s heart turned towards the plight of countless other street children in Kampala. He understood their struggles intimately and recognized that the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and despair was through education and advocacy. Fuelled by his faith and personal experience, Ronald founded Mtaani Foundation in response to the dire situation faced by street children. The Foundation’s mission was clear – to rescue, rehabilitate, and resettle street children, uniting them with their families or finding them caring foster parents. Education and children’s rights became the cornerstones of this noble cause.

Since its inception, Mtaani Foundation has been a shining light for vulnerable children in Kampala. Our team of dedicated individuals works tirelessly to provide a safe haven, education, and a nurturing environment for these young souls, guiding them towards a brighter future. As we continue our journey, we draw strength from Mr. Tumwesigye Ronald’s incredible transformation and his unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of street children.

Join us in our pursuit of hope, education, and a better tomorrow for the street children of Kampala. Together, we can light up the lives of these young souls and pave the way for a more compassionate and just society. Through Ronald’s journey and the efforts of the Mtaani Foundation, we believe that every child deserves a chance at a brighter future, and we are committed to turning their hardships into opportunities for growth and success.
