Emmanuel comes from the rural village of Myeri in Katooke Subcounty, Kyenjojo District, in Western Uganda, a modest background and a close-knit family. He was in Primary 3 when his life took a difficult turn.

An older friend convinced him to travel to the city to look for ways to make money for Christmas. When they arrived, the friend disappeared, leaving Emmanuel alone and vulnerable on unfamiliar streets.

A social worker from Mtaani Foundation came across him and offered help. Despite his apprehension, Emmanuel accepted. He was taken to Mlisada Home, where he received shelter, healthcare, and psychosocial support.

After months away from home, and with Mtaani Foundation's support and coordination, Emmanuel was reunited with his family, the beginning of his journey back to a stable home.
